Perry wrestling wins LCAA D-II crown

Perry completed its regular season with a double dual meet Monday, Jan. 31 against Keshequa and Caledonia-Mumford. The Yellow Jackets defeated both teams to take the LCAA Division II crown for the fifth time in six years.

The match against Keshequa was a lopsided 45-6. Maddox Regatuso and Holden Kelly won the only two matches of the competition to lock it up for Perry.

Noah Leitten, Patrick Backus, Trent True, Ivan West, Landon Washburn and Andrew Kelly all won by forfeit, too.

Both Cal-Mum and Perry were undefeated entering the night. In a back-and-forth match, the Yellow Jackets came out on top 36-27.

True and West won by decision. Leitten, Washburn and the Kellys each won by pin, and Backus received a forfeit.

“It was a great night for the boys with Sectionals coming up and peaking at the right time,” coach Philip Leitten said.
