Three late night arsons under investigation

Authorities are investigating a series of three arson fires in Wyoming County.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services are looking into the fires, which occurred weekly for three straight weeks. The public is being asked to provide any information that may assist in the investigation.

“These crimes have proven to be costly in both equipment and injury to volunteer personnel and show the inherent risks in fire response,” a news release from the sheriff’s office and Emergency Services reads.

All three fires have been reported after 11 p.m.

The first two were reported at 11:07 and 11:08 at vacant houses on Hermitage Road in Orangeville and Wethersfield, respectively. Both structures were owned by Marquart Bros. They were completely engulfed when firefighters arrived to the scene.

That second fire caused significant damage to a Strykersville tanker truck during a refill operation.

Crews were dispatched to the latest blaze at 11:42 Saturday, June 18. This time it was a large tire fire in a bunk silo owned by TJ Marquart and Sons on Quakertown Road in Orangeville.

A firefighter from Warsaw, as well as one from Silver Springs, suffered minor injuries during suppression efforts.  They were treated and released from Wyoming County Community Health System.

“As this very active arson investigation continues, anyone with information is asked to contact Captain Ed Till of the sheriff’s office Criminal Investigations Division at (585) 786-8989 or the confidential tip line at (585) 786-8965,” the news release states.
